Palm-gate

For once, I have thought of an amusing turn-about before Kathy Shaidle did!

In her 'Sarah Palin's Redneck Teleprompter' post about how some "liberal" bloggers (and columnists, no doubt) are trying to equate Palin's cribbing some notes on her palm with the Teleprompter Kid's dependence on his TelePrompTer, Kathy Shaidle links to the Small Dead Animals blog postof the same title (in which SDA juxtaposes a video of the TK in non-action with a photo of Palin's hand), saying "Damn, wish I'd thought of that!"

My first thought on reading about the "Palm-gate" ;) flap is that Palin ought to start out a speech (this would be especially funny were she directly debating alleged-President Obama at the time) by joking, "I, too, have brought my TelePrompTer" and then simply displaying her palm.


Also, slightly off-topic, had I written Palin's GOP convention speech, in which she compared being a small-town mayor to being a "community organizer" -- except with actual responsibilities -- I'd have turned that around and said rather, "... Being a small-town mayor is sort of like bring a 'community organizer' -- except without the responsibilities."

Do They Really Want To Go There?

Do the "liberals" really want to compare Sarah Palin to a racist Democrat? ... and, really, when we get down to it, is there any other kind of Democrat?

Furthermore, as is their simple-minded wont, the "liberals" greatly misunderstand and misconstrue Wallace's appeal. Sure, Wallace was a racist (he was a Democrat, after all!); but, his racism was more a cynical pose-for-political-purposes than an in-his-heart-of-hearts erroneous belief ... thus, Wallace's racism was worse, morally, than that of most persons.

Still, Wallace's appeal was not due to his racism.

For instance … my parents wanted to vote for Wallace … but they also wanted to vote for Shirley Chisholm

LEAVE David Letterman ALONE!

Concerning the current (as of 2008/06) brouhaha over David Letterman's "joke" about the Palins --

Slightly tongue in cheek, I had thought about composing a rant in the manner of this (disgusting -- if you've seen it once you'll probably not care to see it again) video: LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!

Here, by the by, is an amusing send-up of the above: Leave Chris Crocker Alone!


Now, as any reasonably intelligent and informed person realizes, Letterman's joke was referring to Bristol (the 18 year-old -- who *did* get herself knocked-up), not to Willow (the 14 year-old, who didn't).

And, tasteless though the joke was, it was actually more about Eliot Spitzer and "A-Rod" than about the Palins.

So, in a way -- and even though he probably wouldn't realize it -- Letterman was savaging what his own "liberalism" has done and is doing to our common shared life as a nation.


But ya' know, when it comes down to it, I just can't work up the indignation to seeing "liberals" treated to their own preferred medicine. Sure, I'd much prefer that conservatives never behave in the degraded (and degrading) manner of which "liberals" seem to be so fond. But I understand human nature well enough to know that what goes around comes around -- sometimes, the only lesson people will accept about their erroneous behavior is to experience the full consequences of it.
