A (Twisted) Nursery Rhyme for My Imaginary Children

If I'd had a son, I had planned to name him James Joseph (in Southern: Jimmy Joe!). Since twins run in both sides of my family, if there had been a twin, he'd have been Joseph James (in Southern: Joe Jim!). This would have named them after my father, his father, and his father.  Rather than referring to them non-specifically as "Twin", as my brother and I did to our sisters until they insisted we call them by name, either boy, or both at once, would be "JJ".

If I'd had a daughter, I had planned to name her Rachael Marie, thus naming her after my mother, her grandmother, my grandfather's sister, and a not-quite-grandmother who lived with us until her death. A twin would have been Sarah Marie; there are no Sarahs in the family that I know of.  Any daughter, no matter how many, would have had Marie as a middle name (as all my nieces do).

So, here is the (twisted) nursery rhyme:

Hush, little baby, If you don't cry,
I promise to smack you bye and bye,
Or maybe I'll turn you into a pie,
We'll have such fun if you don't cry.

Saturday's Child

I noticed that my upcoming birthday is on a Saturday. I thought I recalled that I was born on a Saturday, so I looked it up. Sure enough, I'm a "Saturday's child". According to the old rhyme, "Saturday's child works hard for a living." But, truth be told, I never had to work particularly hard for my living.

When Is a Joke Not a Joke?

 When the joke highlights the hypocrisy of Democrats and other leftists, obviously.

The other day,'The Babylon Bee' put up a piece with the headline, "Trump Promises Vivek An Administration Position Running The White House 7-Eleven"

1) 'The Babylon Bee's' joke *is* funny, it's very funny;
2) The joke isn't *about* Ramaswamy; it's a multi-layered joke (which is why it's so funny) *about* the Democratic Party's inherent racism and hypocrisy about both race and Trump;
2a) Recall, it was Joe Buy-den who said: "you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."
3) Had it been 'The Onion' -- a leftie satire site -- or the writers for Steven Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel who had been witty enough to make this joke, no one would be complaining about it, because everyone would understand it to be a one-dimensional "joke" accusing Trump of being a racist;
4) Those "conservative" who are offended by the joke have thereby outed themselves as not really conservatives, for they are operating under the false and hypocritical premises of the Democrats and other leftists.

Matt Walsh: The Babylon Bee Made A Vivek Ramaswamy Joke. It Didn't Go Well.

Matt Walsh laughing about being the subject of a BB joke: Babylon Bee Trolls Matt Walsh Before Easter Weekend

EDIT: Here is a comment posted to Tim Pool's video about this pseudo-controversy --

=====
I worked in banking years and years ago. As you entered a new account, you would turn to the customer the screen to choose their profession. I was working with a Indian man, and I turned and it happened to be starting on the list as "Convenient Store Clerk" and he was offended and upset. So he wanted the manager and the manager apologized and said it was random and nothing having to do with him being Indian. So he calmed down and choose "Convenient Store Clerk" as that was his job. lol
=====

Now, *why* was the Indian guy in this anecdote offended? Because he considered being a convenience store clerk to be beneath his dignity ... even though that is exactly what he was.

Had *I* been that man, I'd have found it so hilarious that I'd have been laughing all day.  But then, I don't think that any honest work is beneath me.  Even though I was a well-paid IT professional for most of my adult life, there were times between IT jobs (and, to be blunt, I wasn't actively looking for a new IT job, as I *hate* interviewing) when I have worked menial jobs, such as being a janitor in a steel mill.

Getting the Message

 A man is telling a friend about his day.

My daughter came home from college today and said 'Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, spend my college fund, change my bedroom into that gym you've always wanted, burn all of my clothes, take my TV, my laptop and all of my jewelry. Sell my car, change the locks to the front door and throw me out. Then visit your lawyer to remove me from your will and find a way to legally disown me."

The friend says; "Wow, she really said that to you?"

The man replies; "Well, her exact words were 'Dad, I've decided to change my major and get a gender studies degree'. But, I got the message."

About that "viral" math question

... which is apparently freaking so many people out --

"8 ÷ 2(2+2) = ?" is not the same question as "8 ÷ 2 * (2+2) = ?"

Perhaps it will help some people to understand why "1" is the correct solution if we replace the number '2' with the variable 'a' --

"8 ÷ 2(2+2) = ?"

"8 ÷ a(a+a) = ?"

"8 ÷ (a**2 + a**2) = ?"

"8 ÷ 2a**2 = ?"

"4 ÷ a**2 = ?"

Now, plugging the known value of 'a' back into the equation, we have --

"4 ÷ 2**2 = ?"

"4 ÷ 4 = ?"

"4 ÷ 4 = 1"

Go back to where you came from

Back in about 2000, I was instructed by a black man (*), a minor flunky in the state government, to “Go back to where you came from; we don’t need your kind here.”

I was nonplussed; it struck me as that funny.

What I might have said, but of course didn’t, was something like, “Sonny-boy, I *am* where I came from; it’s you Old-Worlders who need to go back to where you came from.”

(*) who looked to have as much European ancestry as I have

EDIT 2019/07/24: When Black Democrats Tell Cuban Immigrants to “Go Home!” it’s different because 'Shut Up'.
According to information in a police report, it was the accuser–a Georgia state legislator–who uttered an allegedly racist phrase to a fellow shopper at a grocery store.

That news from the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Rep. Erica Thomas originally claimed a “white” man confronted her when she had too many items in an express lane and hurled racist insults at her including “Go back to your country” or “Go back where you came from.” . . .

"A Publix employee told a Cobb County officer that she witnessed part of the conversation and heard Thomas “continuously tell Eric Sparkes to ‘Go back where you came from!”’ but did not hear Sparkes utter those words to Thomas." -- Atlanta Journal Constitution
This is my shocked face. As it turns out, I already knew when I first wrote this post that he -- a Trump-hating Democrat, himself -- hadn't ordered her to "Go back where you came from!”. What I didn't know at the time, and am not at all surprised to learn, is that *she* issued that command to him.

Also, I'm not at all surprised to learn that she "continuously" ordered him to "Go back where you came from!” Because, you know, ghetto.

A Workable Compromise

Hey, "liberals" and "woke" "Christians", we conservatives and regular Christians have a compromise deal for you --

We'll stop supporting the political party whose main objective is to destroy the world when you stop supporting the political party whose main objectives are 1) to kill babies, and 2) to destroy America.

Just like the last 17 times

Sultan Knish: Government Shuts Down, Nation Descends into Riots, Looting and Cannibalism

What these "government shutdowns" that the Democrats periodically cause demonstrate is that the only *need* we Americans have for the federal government is that it do the things the Constitutions requires it to do and for which it was created in the first place. You, know, the very things that the Democrats sabotage at every opportunity.

The Second Coming ...

... of Reagan (*)

No matter what Trump says or does, the leftists are going to act as though he were The Second Coming of Ronald Reagan. So, while he's at it, he might as well out-Reagan Reagan.

(*) While I was not a "Never-Trumper", in the end I didn't vote for him (to be more precise, as I am passed tired of voting for "the lesser of two evils", I couldn't bring myself to vote for him). I voted for Darrell Castle of the Constitution Party. My second choice would have been the Conservative Party; but the Constitution Party's planks were more explicitly "socially conservative" and, indeed, unashamedly Christian, so I voted for them.

While I am still registered as a Republican, I have for many years despised the establishment GOP almost as much as I do the Dems, and for much the same reason -- they do not love America, and they do not see it as Job One to further the true, and long-term, interests of actual Americans over undocumented Democrats.

But, Trump, for all his faults, comes across as someone who really does love America and is working for the interests of Americans, rather than of foreigners.

And that, by the way, was Reagan's "secret" -- he loved America and Americans. He disagreed with the "big thinkers" in both parties that it was America's fate to be overrun by the Marxists (and, as far as most Dems were and still are concerned, that we *deserved* to be).

Party Differences

It used to be said in the 1950s by snobbish "anti-snobs" that the Episcopalian Church was "the Republican Party at prayer".

In similar vein, the KKK was "the Democratic Party in conclave".

Appreciating the Dems

I think that we conservatives ought to work harder to appreciate the Partisans of the Ass ... and their leftist puppet-masters ... for they perform a vital function in this ever-changing modern world: they supply consistency. Oh, sure, what they say today may contradict what they said yesterday, and almost certainly will contradict what they said the day before yesterday. And, sure, the "crisis" over which they are hyperventilating may change, and almost daily (as what does not?); but, whatever the "crisis" -- even if they have to manufacture it themselves (*) -- we can rest assured, and indeed take comfort in the fact, that the "solution" will never change: give the leftists life-and-death power over our lives and then everything will be fine. And for that consistency, we should appreciate them; for, after all, what other human endeavor has been this rock-solid over two and a half centuries?

(*) economic humor of the day -- Leftists have (both absolute and) comparative advantage in the manufacture of two staple commodities: crises and corpses.

About the Dems' 'Trump is Caesar' Murder Porn

An amusing thing about the Democrats' "Trump is Caesar" murder porn is that Caesar was of the party of the 'Populares', rather than of the 'Optimates'. That is, according to the Democratic Party's own self-serving mythology about itself, Caesar was one of them!

Activism!

Shadow To Light: The Cult of Activism "Over the last few years, I have noticed a common thread among the influential, prolific, and/or very public activists – they are unemployed. And because they are unemployed, they seek money through their activism in the form of speeches, books, donations, etc. That’s how they support themselves."

The essential prerequisite of being an "activist" is the desire to "change the world." Or, to put that more bluntly (and more honestly) -- the essential prerequisite of being an "activist" is the desire to change other people ... coupled with the sure knowledge of how those other people need to live their lives.

So, given that, it's rather ludicrous, don't you think, to expect an "activist" to seek out and hold down an actual job to support herself (*)? Why, if an "activist" attended to her own business, however would she find the time to attend to yours?

(*) do you see what I did there?

If only there were some way

Every four years, scads of (generally washed-up) celebrities "threaten" us with the promise that if X (you know, the guy with the 'R' after his name) wins the election, they are going to abandon these United States.

And then, when he does, they never do.

If only there were some way to induce them to keep their promise.

Additional thought:

Notice that they *never* promise to flee to Mexico, which is full of Mexicans, but rather to Canada, which is full of white people. I guess they must be racists.
