Well, there were a number of comments that mentioned the "knots" versus "barbs", and the "discomfort" versus "pain" "bruising" and "swelling".
But this my my favorite:
I have a friend that did this and one of the knots at the end of the string got infected and she had a green oozing sore in her hairline. I could see the knot moving around in the hole when she would speak. It was disgusting.
A thousand years ago, our cultural ancestors prayed, "From the fury of the Northmen, Lord, protect us!"
. . .
Today, we ought to pray, "From the tender mercies and caring solicitude of the Good Intentioned, Lord, protect us!"
