And the howls of outrage from cat owners just confirms it.

:o)

Well, in fairness, the article did claim that most infected people probably got the virus from undercooked meat.

Which leads to the question: why do 'cat people' allow the beasts to jump onto their kitchen counters in the first place, even before they (the people) are infected?

"And the howls of outrage from cat owners just confirms it."

Perhape the major effect of this virus when it infects humans is to make them irrational die-hard defenders of all things cat-related?

Then again, 'cat-people' tend to be irrational from the start. That is, the sort of person (i.e. certain women and womanly men) who becomes a 'cat-person' tends to be the sort who personalizes everything, such that they view any criticism of anything they themselves favor into a vicious attack upon their own person ... which then justifies a vicious personal attack in response.

At the same time, I kept writing 'virus' when it's not a virus being discussed.

Womanly men? I'm used to being insulted by you for my teleological views, but this is ridiculous.

Interesting.

So, an observation about a certain sort of woman (*) (if we may beforgiven for calling them that), and about a certain sort of man (*) (if we may beforgiven for calling them that), both of which types are far too comon these days for the continuance of functioning societies, and a speculation about a subset of cat-lovers (***), became for you a personal insult?

(*) namely, those who, rather than cultivating any feminine virtues they may naturally possess, instead cultivate the stereotypically female vices;

(**) namely, those who, rather than cultivating any masculine virtues they may naturally possess, instead work to replace them with the stereotypically female vices, such that they end up exhibiting mostly the worst traits of both sexes;

(***) namely, that it isn't cat ownership (or love thereof), per se, which turns a certain subset of cat-owners into "cat-people", into the blithering idiots who turn any negative comment or fact concerning cats into an attack upon their person, but that perhaps, for whatever reason, such persons as described above (i.e. crazy women and womanly men) may gravitate toward cats.

I must confess I didn't plough through all of that response because it was only meant to be a jokey comment.

But you described "the sort of person... who becomes a 'cat person'" as "certain women and womanly men". That's not a subset of cat people, it's your summation of them.

Its true that lack of empathy with our fellow mammals annoys the crap out of me, but really, it was basically a good natured bit of whimsy, so please take it as such.
