Ilion,

Interesting ARTICLEequating libertarianism with totalitarianism.

Prokop, equating libertarianism with totalitarianism is insane. If you think there is any such case to be made, you are EVIL, period!

With these ideas of the Kingdom of God, these religiously-oriented statists think they are doing God’s work on earth by fighting the evils they see with means such as the state that are evil too and that generate more evils. They are really misunderstanding Christ who made it clear that “My kingdom is not of this world.” What with man’s fallen condition, two thousand years of struggle in the wrong directions haven’t yet impressed upon his consciousness appropriate directions. We still have the dominant empire on earth, among its other sinful motivations, attempting to impose “goodness” on other nations and on Americans.

Hey, I'm not doing the equating - Michael Sean Winters is. Your beef is with him, not me.

Fair enough, B. Then he is "intellectually dishonest", to use one of Ilion's favorites.

But why was his article "interesting" to you, rather than reprehensible?

Nick said...

I recognize, of course, that Ilion, yourself and others may have serious issues with libertarianism, but it sure isn't "totalitarianism" by any stretch of the imagination.

B. Prokop said...

"But why was his article "interesting" to you?"

Because he raised points I had never before considered, and provided a fresh viewpoint on otherwise stale ideas. God save us from echo chambers! Or.. as Chairman Mao said, "Let one hundred flowers bloom, and one hundred schools of thought contend."

God save us from echo chambers!

Yes, you're right again! I'm just me, and I try my best, but fail often.

SRV,

"You are not far from the Kingdom of God." (Mark 12:34)

SRV,

Although I am not fond of "proof verses", I always refer to the following whenever anyone attempts to hijack the Lord of the Universe for his personal political agenda:

One of the multitude said to [Jesus], "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?"

See? God will not be co-opted by our political or economic agendas.

^ Says the man who constantly tries to co-opt Christ in support of his socialism.

"Although I am not fond of "proof verses", ..."

That's good, because you don't do a very good job of it.

B. Prokop said...

Don't get me started...

Ilíon said...

Oh, now! We both know that it's not the starting where you have difficulty, it's the ending, the getting where you want to go, that eludes you.

B. Prokop said...

Watch it Ilion, or I'll get one of my hacker friends from NSA to fix your computer so that it only downloads re-runs of The Rachel Maddow Show.

Ilíon said...

If you'd *really* wanted to frighten me, you'd have threatened me with ... what's his name? ... the female Rachel Maddow.

Still, what makes you think I don't already have the means to unhack my computer?

B. Prokop said...

"what's his name?"

Are you referring to Chris Matthews? Be careful now, you'd be slamming a Fellow Catholic here! (even if he is something of a windbag)

Ilíon said...

No, I know which face the name 'Chris Matthews' goes with.

Chris Matthews is an abortion proponent. He may be a Catholic -- after all, Catholicism is all about that damned bureaucracy -- but he's not a Christian.

Ilíon said...

Ah. The female Rachel Maddow is named 'Chris Hayes' ... how did you not know that at once?

B. Prokop said...

Hah! Good one.

You know, I've often wondered about the Freudian implications of Chris Hayes's show, All In...

Now please excuse me while I get back to watching re-runs of The Ed Show.
